What Do You Get?

I’m a Professional Tennis Player, and my guests are other young people trying to make their dreams happen. Follow along to hear what our lives are really like!

At just 22 years old, and one year after graduating from East Carolina University, Joran has climbed to #529 in the ATP Singles rankings and #286 in the ATP Doubles rankings. Originally from Maaseik, Belgium, Joran has already captured one Singles Title and 13 Doubles Titles in his career. He went to ECU as a player who was not highly recruited and by the end of his career he reached #28 in the ITA Singles Rankings and was voted Conference USA Player of the Year, needless to say he's the best player to ever come out of ECU! Joran is a perfect example of how college tennis can be a good way for players to develop physically and mentally before trying a professional career; he credits much of his success on the Futures Tour to his four years spent at ECU.

Matteo is 28 years old, from Ceprano, Italy, and has been ranked as high as #667 ATP in Singles, and #423 ATP in Doubles. He played four years of college tennis at the University of Tennessee, where he was on one of the best teams in the country; they lost in the finals of NCAA's to USC. Talking to Matteo was cool for me because he's 28 and still out here playing Futures full time, playing league matches and coaching to help cover his costs; he has no intentions of stopping to get a "real job". He loves the life he's built for himself through tennis, and knows that something good will come from all the connections he has made while traveling once his playing career is over.

He has two career Singles Futures Titles and five Doubles Futures Titles to his name so far, with more to come! He was the #52 Junior in the world and has had a quick but challenging transition to the professional tour; he has already seriously questioned whether or not he has what it takes to "make it" out here.
